Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
